Özet

Ottoman Turkish is one of the most important courses taught in certain departments of universities, and in particular in the departments of Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish Language and Literature Teaching, Contemporary Turkish Dialects, Turkish and History. Ottoman Turkish is a stage in Turkish language, serving as a bridge between Old Anatolian Turkish and modern Turkish. Thus, familiarity with Ottoman Turkish is a necessity to accurately understand, decipher and interpret the literary and historical works written in the Ottoman period. However, the instruction of this course is still not at a desired level. The reason for this is that students must take this course without achieving the level of readiness for basic grammar knowledge and vocabulary of Old Anatolian Turkish, Arabic and Persian languages that form the basis of this course. Therefore, this paper deals with the problems encountered in teaching Ottoman Turkish and the place and significance of Old Anatolian Turkish, Arabic and Persian in teaching Ottoman Turkish.
