Abstract


MORPHOLOGICAL AWARENESS AND MORPHOLOGICAL AWARENESS TRAINING
Morphological awareness includes knowing the parts of the words that are building block of the language, being aware of these parts and benefiting from this knowledge and awareness when it is necessary. The morphological knowledge of a language is the knowledge of the language’s functioning system. Regardless of type and content, understanding of how things work as a system and knowing the functions and assignments of the parts which constitute this system, absolutely help to understand the targeted system and assist to use it better. In this respect, knowing the functioning properties of the language working as a system helps to use it more effectively both as native and foreign language. The aim of this study is to introduce morphological awareness which has not been defined previously in Turkish literature, to the field of language education, to provide knowledge about the type and dimensions of morphological awareness, and to present opinion about the contribution of morphological awareness training in the process of language education and teaching. It is believed that this study will provide a basis for future researches on morphological awareness in Turkish literature.
