Özet

This study aims to delve examining the relationship between the communication skills of the students studying at the faculty of education and their speech anxiety was determined. Also it was examined whether the communication skills and speech anxiety scores of the students made a difference according to the variables of gender, class and following academic studies. The research was carried out with the quantitative survey method. Data were collected from 399 students studying at the faculty of education using the “Communication Skills Scale” developed by Korkut Owen and Bugay (2014) and the “Speech Anxiety Scale” developed by Yaman and Suroğlu Sofu (2013). The data was analyzed using the SPSS 22 statistical package program. communication skills and speech anxiety scores were examined according to gender and following academic studies with independent sample t-test; grade level was analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance test. The relationship between communication skills and speech anxiety scores was examined by calculating the Pearson Correlation coefficient. To sum up the communication skill averages of the teacher candidates who follow academic studies are higher; speech anxiety mean scores were found to be significantly lower. There was no change in the mean score according to grade level and gender. It was determined that there was a moderately positive and significant relationship between the communication skills and speech anxiety scores. As a result, as the communication skill levels of the education faculty students increase, their speech anxiety decreases.
