Özet

Since the rapidity and diversity in the production and consumption of goods in the modern era have also affected human life, one of the ways to describe and understand the modern man has been the relationship he established with the goods. In this sense, things have been examined by disciplines such as sociology, psychology, semiotics, literature, and things have been examined in different contexts such as personality, identity, gender, class. Defining and classifying the goods and determining their place in the world of society and individuals have been among the main objectives of these studies. In literary studies, the relationship between goods and literature has recently begun to be questioned, and approaches to the function of objects in fictional narratives have gained importance with modern art and literature movements. The common point of literary studies is about the function of the objects in the narrative. The aim of this article was to determine the functional use of the item in the contemporary story, and inferences were made about the use of items in the contemporary story by focusing on the item-identity relationship.
