Abstract


A RESEARCH ABOUT A DIFFERENT USAGE OF THE SUFFIX -(I4)p / -(y)I4p tI4r
In Turkish, as an agglutinating language, verbals have an important place in terms of meaning and composition. These kinds of suffixes contribute to Turkish with fluency. Some of the aforesaid suffixes have been fulfilling the same function going back to old Turkish. Some of them have lost their primary function and undertook a new function or they undertook a new function without losing their primary function. This study will examine the verbal adverb -(I4)p / –(y)I4p’s merging with tI4r indicative form, and as a result, in Middle Turkish the suffix –mIş’s usage as past perfect tense and also past tense verbal adjective suffix. First, this study will indicate where this suffix has been used as a past perfect tense, and then it will give information about this suffix’s appearance as the verbal adjective (ism-i fail) in the two important literary study of Mameluke Kipchak Turkish Et-Tuḥfet’üz-Zekiyye fi’l-Lûġati’t-Türkiyye ve El-kavânînü’l-külliye li-zabti’l-lügati’t-Türkiyye. All the examples will be presented in which this suffix is considered as a verbal adjective and it will be explained at the conclusion section how it undertook a verbal adjective function.
