Abstract
Giambattista Vico, düşünceleri ile tarih felsefesi ve tarih bilimine önemli katkılar sağlamış bir düşünürdür. Bu konularda özgün düşünceler ortaya koyan Vico’nun değeri ve büyüklüğü ancak ölümünden uzun yıllar sonra anlaşılabilmiştir. Vico, doğa bilimleri metodolojisinin karşısında, yeni bir metodoloji olan tarih ve toplum bilimleri metodolojisinin olanaklı olabileceğini göstermiştir. Tarihin bir bilgi dalı olduğunu kabul eden Vico, İnsanın doğası üzerinde tarihsel ve toplumsal şartların etkisini vurgulamıştır. Vico’ya göre insan, yalnızca kendisinin neden olduğu ve kendisinin yaptığı şeyleri daha doğru ve tam olarak bilebilir.

Özet
Giambattista Vico is a prominent thinker who contributed much to the philosophy of history and science of history with his ideas. Vico, who pointed out his original ideas and thoughts on those issues, was admired, appreciated and acknowledged long after his death. Vico mentioned that as a new methodology, the methodology of historical and social sciences is a feasible methodology in the face of natural sciences’ methodology. Vico, who accepts that history is a branch of knowledge, emphasized the influence of historical and social conditions on human nature. According to Vico, a human being can only know the things correctly and exactly that he himself causes and performs.
