Özet

Objective of this research designed in qualitative pattern is to identify the reasons that challenge the school orientation processes of 9th grade students of Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools with respect to school's social services. Study group for the research consisted of six school principals and one school counsellor from three different Vocational and Technical High Schools ,chosen with purpose sampling method in Sakarya province. Research data was collected through in-depth interviewing method that consisted of three different sections. Data collected in this manner was analyzed qualitatively and was categorized in three themes and nine codes. Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools' 9th grade students' lack of knowledge on the disciplinary code and procedures for secondary education, their low levels of academic achievement, and the practice of providing a 40 hours of cultural subject dominated intensive program for 9th grade students were the factors challenging school orientation process. Adaptation problems were mostly reflected as external behaviour disorders. The field selection during 10th grade eliminated the adaptation problem to a great extent. Social service experts are needed for fast and effective completion of 9th grade students orientation processes.
