Abstract
RELATION OF VOLITIONAL COLLOCATION AND MODALITY: THE CASE OF PREDICATIVE MODALITY
It is called collocation that one morpheme is frequently used with one morpheme or morpheme have tendency to other morphemes. In some articles collocation is just related to free morphemes. Modality that reflects the mood of speaker also has privilege in terms of tendency to collocations. Probability modality can be with morphological, lexical, syntactic and contextual as well as it can also be achieved by using a combination of several of them. Modals need to have other elements to show the speakers intention.
For example, Muhakkak o, benden önce gelmiştir. In this sentence speaker can show her/his assumption that it has come before his/herself by using muhakkak and –DIr. It is not enough to code the mean using just muhakkak, so –DIr suffix helps the mean of sentence.
In this article predicative modality that is subtype of epistemic modality will be analysed in terms of collocation and this case will be discussed for semantic.
