Abstract
RELIABILITY IN DICTIONARIES: BEN, SEN, O, BİZ, SİZ, ONLAR IN TÜRKÇE SÖZLÜK
Dictionaries are works that meet people's needs for information about words. Therefore, they should provide reliable information to the person who applied to them. Reliable information should not be perceived as providing only correct information. Due to the dictionaries are word lists, their preparing in a certain order should also be included in the scope of reliability. This broad view leads to the definition of reliability in two different aspects, one for lexicological arrangement and the other for consistency and correctness of the information in the dictionary. Reliability is to apply the same process for similar situations in terms of lexicographical arrangements (repeatability). And from the point of knowledge, reliability is to say consistent and correct things.
92.292 words in Türkçe Sözlük (Turkish Dictionary) forms the population of this study in which it is researched whether "ben, sen, o, biz, siz, onlar" provide reliable information or not. The information of these articles which form the sample have first been chosen among the other lexicographical components through document scanning and systematically compiled. Then, these articles have been evaluated within the frame of lexicology principles in terms of reliability. At the same time, this evaluation is also a response to two problem statements. These are the questions such as "Is the sytagm of the headwords which have the same spelling in Türkçe Sözlük consistent?" and "Do the equivalent definitions in Türkçe Sözlük have similar grammatical labels?".
As a result of the research, it has been seen that the macro structure of the dictionary is not the same for all the articles when there is homonymy in the articles "Ben, Sen, O, Biz, Siz, Onlar" in Türkçe Sözlük. It has also been found that there is a discrepancy between the grammatical labels given in the article and the definitions and it has been determined that different grammatical labels are given for equivalent definitions. Therefore, it is necessary to handle the related articles again and rewrite them in accordance with the modern lexicography understanding.
