Abstract
CRITICAL PEDAGOGY: PROSPECTIVE TEACHER'S PERSPECTIVES (ATATÜRK UNİVERSİTY SAMPLE)
The aim of this research is to examine the views of prospective teachers regarding critical pedagogy in terms of various variables. The population of the research model in the survey model constitutes the freshmen who will start their university education in the fall semester of 2012-2013 academic year in Atatürk University Kazim Karabekir Faculty of Education and the final year undergraduate prospective teachers who will graduate. The sample consists of 585 prospective teachers determined by simple random sampling method. The data of the study were collected through " Principles of Critical Pedagogy Scale" which was developed by Yilmaz (2009). It consists of three sub-dimensions as "Education System, Functions of School and Liberating School". For the data analysis, descriptive statistics were used; and Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis test were used for non-parametric tests. According to the research findings, while prospective teachers showed the highest participation regarding critical pedagogy for the liberating school sub-dimension, the lowest participation was shown for the education system sub-dimension. Moreover, according to gender, class and department variables, there were differences in the views of prospective teachers regarding critical pedagogy.
