Abstract
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MANAV DIALECTS OF ESKİŞEHİR
Dialects are threatened with not being able to sustain their existence by such factors as the spread of communication tools such as television, Internet depending on the developing technology, facilitation of transportation, increasing education level and literacy rate, immigration to big cities, dominant influence of standard language etc. For this reason, it is imperative that the dialects should be documented and investigated without delay. Dialect studies are important for the protection by documenting before dialects completely disappear, investigate the dialects by scientific methods, reveal the richness of the dialects which is important for presenting valuable materials for language, history, sociology, geography, literature, culture and art and other fields. It is important to document and determinate the general characteristics of the dialects of the Manavs living in the province of Eskişehir, which have not been studied previously. In this study, general information about Eskişehir province and Manavs will be given and the general characteristics of Manav dialects of Eskişehir will be tried to be revealed based on the texts which compiled from Manavs who live in Eskişehir.
