Abstract
THE RELATION BETWEEN THE OCCUPATIONAL ANXIETY LEVEL AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TURKISH TEACHER CANDIDATES
The objective of this research is to determine the relation between occupational anxiety level and personal characteristics of Turkish teacher candidates. In this study, relational screening model is used. The sample of this research that is the categorization of 12 regions for each city (Ankara, Balikesir, Bolu, Burdur, Denizli, Elazig, Istanbul, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Ordu, Tokat) by Turkish Statistical Institute (TUİK) is consist of 400 Turkish teacher candidates study at faculty of education of these cities.
As a result of the analysis of data obtained in this research carried out by the relational screening model it was determined that there is a weak but meaningful relation between occupational anxiety level and personal characteristics of Turkish teacher candidates. In this study, it is determined that as the features of “extroversion” and “lying” of Turkish teacher candidates increases, the anxiety level also increases; however, as the features of “neuroticism” increases, the level of anxiety decreases. When relation between the occupational anxiety level and personal characteristics of Turkish teacher candidates analyzed, there is only a weak relation is determined between the factors of feature of “lying” with the “colleague and parent centered anxiety” and “adaptation centered anxiety” (respectively .37 and .33) it is determined that among personal characteristics there is only a weak relation between the feature of “lying” and “psychoticism” (-.43). When the factors of anxiety level examined, it is determined that the highest relation is between “duty centered anxiety” and “student / communication centered anxiety” (.77; strong relation).
