Abstract
THE VIEWS OF INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS WITH REGARD TO LISTENING-SPEAKING COURSE (A CASE OF ADNAN MENDERES UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES)
The purpose of this research is to evaluate listening-speaking course at Adnan Menderes University, School of Foreign Language. In this qualitative research, opinions and suggestions of teachers and students were collected through semi-structured interviews. The obtained data were analyzed by typological analysis technique. The study included 12 students and 8 instructors. Study includes the results of current state of four focus dimensions- aims, content, teaching- learning situation and assessment of the course. Results showed that the aim of speaking course could not be reached, the content of the course had to include academic subjects, the neccessity of using visuals in class. In the study, the role of students was passive; however, the students and instructors claimed that the students should be actively involved in class activities. Measurement process didn't include speaking exams. Suggestions were made in the study for these findings.
