Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EDUCATION FACULTY STUDENTS’ ATTITUDE TOWARD READING AND THEIR ACHIEVEMENT IN WRITTEN EXPRESSION COURSE
Writing necessitates skill rather than knowledge. Skillfully writing is a process that requires disciplined and continuous work, write making inferences from reading and making practice. Effective reader, and reviewing the writings of master authors, writing a lot, reading good are effective role for nice writing. Therefore, being good reader is important for writing success. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the attitudes towards reading of students at Faculty of Education by several variables, determine the level of reading habit and reveals that there is a relationship between the level of attitudes towards reading and writing success.
Scanning method was used in this study. 420 students studying at 10 different departments at Faculty of Education participated to this study. Attitude scale towards reading habit was developed by Susar Kırmızı (2012) was used as data collection tool.
It is observed that the level of attitudes toward reading of students at Faculty of Education was 4.9%lower, 57.9% of medium and 37.2% higher in scale after the results of the analysis. the attitudes towards reading of students at Faculty of Education shows significant differences by gender and division. There is a meaningful relationship between attitudes towards reading habit and number of books read in a year. It has been defined on a moderate correlation between attitudes towards reading habit and level of reader perceptions; a low correlations between attitudes towards reading habit and writing success.
