Abstract
AN OLD TURKIC ETYMOLOGICAL ESSAY: AYAK “BOWL, GLASS”
In Turkish, the word ayak which stands out in various meanings like "pot, cup, glass, cup for liquid drink" is a word which is very common and old remembrances in Turkish culture. Throughout history, the oldest usage of the ayak in the language of the Turks spread from the Korean peninsula to the plains of Hungary is found in the tongues of the Tuna Bulgarians and Uighurs. And it is also possible to find sculptures holding a toast in every region of Central Asia and Eastern Europe spread by Turkish nobility. In Turks, the ayak, of course, means "the container for liquid drinking" in connection with its basic function. This study will try to put forth new views on the root of the ayak word that we think is important for both Turkish culture and language. At the core of the work is the belief that the knowledge of the root of the ayak has not yet been revealed to the extent of enlightening and satisfying knowledge.
