Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SOCIECONOMIC FACTORS AND READING LITERACY ACCORDING TO PISA 2015 TURKEY RESULTS
The goal of the study is to investigate the relationship between socioeconomic factors and Turkish students’ reading skills on PISA tests in 2015. Participants of the study included 2501 (%50.4) female and 2462(%49.6) male students. The researchers conducted Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, multiple regression analysis, and ANOVA methods for the data analysis. The research findings showed that the occupational status of parents, cultural possesions, and ICT resources had statistically significant effects on the students’ reading skills. In addition, students’ reading scores varied based on their parents’ education level and the number of the book in their home environments. However, family wealth and home educational resources are not significant predictors of reading skills.
