Abstract
COMPARISON OF DICTIONARIES OF TERMS USED FOR TURKISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
The aim of this study is to compare seven dictionaries of grammar terms used for Turkish language teaching regarding certain characteristics of the terms the dictionaries include. The comparison has been made based on the numbers, common uses, and ways of making (building up/creating) of the terms in selected dictionaries. Results of the research have put forward that a unity in the Turkish grammar terms has not yet been reached, although many efforts were made since the first years of the establishment of the Turkish republic. The comparison presents that only 43 (forty-three) of all terms, -the first entries expressing a given definition- are used in common. Structural analysis of the common terms indicates that a possibility of mutual acceptation and utilization of a term may increase, if terms are created based on a scientific foundation abiding by related rules of the language.
