Abstract
A MULTI-ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTS OF SMARTPHONES’ ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND PRESENTATION PROFICIENCY LEVELS OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS
The aim of this research is to determine the effect of smartphones on the academic achievement and presentation proficiency levels of prospective teachers through multiple analyses. For this purpose, both quantitative and qualitative methods were used. In the quantitative dimension, pretest and posttest single group experimental design and Rasch Measurement Model; was made use of while in the qualitative dimension action research study was. Participants of the study were selected from 3rd grade prospective teachers studying at Kilis 7 Aralık University Preschool Teacher Training Department during 2016-2017 academic year. Experimental dimension was carried out through SPSS; Rasch model was through Facets and qualitative data was through Maxqda analysis programs. The three surfaces of the Rasch model were identified as 35 juries, 25 items evaluating prospective teachers and 7 groups whose competencies were evaluated. The findings of the research showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores of the prospective teachers. Further, the 7th group was found as the most competent, the 29th encoded judge was as the most lenient and the M5-coded item was as the most difficult item. These results showed that the use of smartphones positively influenced the academic achievement and presentation competences of prospective teachers, and contributed to their development in different aspects. The conscious use of this technology offers great conveniences at for the educational experiences as it does for every stage of life.
