Abstract
QUALITATIVE RESEARCH ON WHETHER OR NOT THE TEXTS IN TURKISH COURSE BOOKS MEET THE CRITERIA FOR CRITICAL THINKING
This study aims to determine whether the examples of critical thinking criteria are included in the texts in 4th grade Turkish course books. Thus, the study employs case study as a qualitative approach. Turkish course book for 4th graders published by Doku Publication and taught to 4th graders for five years beginning with the 2017-2018 academic year with reference to the decision made by the Board of education of the Ministry of National Education in 26.12 2012 with decision number 225 was used as the source of data collection. The sample was chosen through stratified purposeful sampling. The data were analysed by using descriptive analysis approach. In line with the research purpose, criteria for critical thinking were considered as categories, and explanatory codes were developed for the categories. Accordingly, as a result of the research, it was found that the texts selected from the themes of the textbook examined included examples related to clarity, importance/ relevance and depth/ width criteria in terms of the criteria of critical thinking.
