Abstract
FISH IN CLASSICAL TURKISH POETRY
Animals were included in classical Turkish poetry for various reasons. Since sea is an important image for poets, sea creatures are frequently mentioned in poems. Fishes have a special importance as sea creatures.
In this study, we examined how fish were handled in classical Turkish poetry. Our study consists of an entrance and four main parts. The view of the fishes of the Ottoman society and its reflections on the poetry is evaluated in the entrance. In the first part, there are couplets in which lovers are considered fish. In the second part, the evaluations of the poets about fishes are discussed. In the third part, some analogies and features related to fish in classical Turkish poetry are listed. In the fourth part, there are some fish species mentioned in classical Turkish poetry.
