Abstract
WHY WE CUT THE PRICE? A DIACHRONIC AND SEMANTIC STUDY ABOUT ÜZMEK, KESMEK, BİÇMEK “TO CUT” FROM OLD TURKIC TO TURKEY TURKISH
The idioms, as stereotypes, are special structures arising from the experiences of the nations that are the producers of language, and are often used to express an individual action or situation. Certain specific grammatical processes are effective in the foundation of these special structures. Hundreds of definitions have been made by local and foreign scientists on what the idiom is. However, the answer to the question of what is the common feature of these definitions is only possible by the explanation of the establishment and semantic structure of the idiom. Firstly, idioms are structures that are formed by a combination of multiple words. The second point is the semantic dimension of the idiom, where it must be used outside the true meaning of at least one of the words that make up the phrase. In this study, emergence of the idiom bedel biç- “value, priceless, price to determine” that used in Turkish will be examined. This is a social and grammatical study and will be carried out from the Old Turkish to the present. Then the verb biç- “to cut” will be highlighted in relation to the price.
