Abstract
AESTHETIC ATTITUDE IN THE POEMS OF CENAB ŞAHABEDDIN
Cenab Şahabeddin, who established and developed a great deal of aesthetics of Servet-i Fünûn poetry, was able to develop a new sense of style specifically in his poems between 1896-1902 and, as a result he has not lost his dynamism even today. The role of Cenab Şahabeddin’s aspiration to art and his character on achieving this cannot be denied considering various studies today have revealed the success of the poet. However, there is still a debate about what the poet wants to achieve in modern Turkish poetry or whether he wants to achieve anything, what point he wants to go with poetry or what he sees poetry as. These questions will be attempted to be answered in the present study. While attempting to answer these questions, Cenab Şahabeddin’s aesthetic stance will be emphasized and, in this respect, especially sensualist and western philosophy scripts will be benefited from. Thus, a new point of view will be brought to Cenab Şahabeddin’s poems and poetry, the world behind his poetry will be revealed and, the role Cenab Şahabeddin plays on Turkish poetry will be revised.
