Abstract
AN EFFORT TO RECONSTRUCTION THE POWER: GÖNÜL HANIM
Discourse is the means used to make sense of the World and to build dominance centers. It is linked to the concept of hegemony, which in volves a wide range of meaningful depths of power and dominance, which deal with interclass interaction in different ways. Discourse and hegemony are the basis for gender studies, and therefore for explaining the relationships between men and women.
Women, who believe that sovereignty existed in men and that they were suppressed in public life, started the movement of feminism in the 1960s. From these cond wave of this movement, when some men begin to say that they are crushed by men, different forms of masculinity and these condary status of men in social roles come into question. Thus, it is pointed out that male gender is produced through hegemony in gender roles.
It is judged as a male, who is dominatedbysocialgenderroles, and women who are subject to gender roles.In the period when the Turkish identity is tried to be rebuilt from a masculine point of view, Ahmet Hikmet Muftuoglu glorifies the Turkish identity. In his novel titled as Gönül Hanım, he deals with hegemonic relations with oppositions such as dominance-impotence, exaltation-vilification, us-theother, woman-man. In this study, the attempt to rebuild power with in the framework of the concept of discourse, dominance relations, power, and masculinity will be evaluated in the context of masculine elements.
