Abstract
THE INVESTIGATION OF HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS READING WITH RESPECT TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF VARIABLES
The aim of this research was to examine the attitudes of high-school students towards reading with respect to different types of variables. The study group consisted of 522 high-school students studying in a state high school in Bursa. “The Attitude towards Reading Scale” was used as the data collection tool. In the analysis of the data, the arithmetic mean, the standard deviation, the independent t test and a one-way variance analysis were used. According to the results of the study, it was found that high-school students' attitudes towards reading were at a more highly positive level. In addition, it was determined that the attitudes of high-school students towards reading differed significantly according to variables such as gender and a library at home. According to this, female students' attitudes towards reading were found to be more positive. It was also found that students who had a library at home had relatively more positive attitudes towards reading.
