Abstract
ARCHAEOLOGY AND ART HISTORY WHERE TO START, WHERE TO FINISH?
The science of Archeology has been defined as a field that covers most of the objects that have been made and used in the past period of time. It is under the work description to find, research, describe and classify the artifacts. On the other hand, Art History is a field that investigates the visual arts. Archeology and Art History are both about material culture, but only specific objects have been identified as under art historian work description. It is not an easy job to determine which objects are ecstatically pleasing and which aren’t. Between these two fields the identification and the classification of the objects would be needed first. From these reasons, art historian description has been overlapped with archeological discipline. The science of archeology has become more distant from art history as time progresses.
In near future archeology is going to be more than a field just determines art and aestheticism. It will be about the research on the history of people.
By this, it should be decided whether ‘Ottoman artifacts’’ needs to be excavated by archeologists or art historians. It will conclude the arguments that have been done that Ottoman archeology is in the job description of archaeologists art historians.
