Abstract
CHILD REALITY IN CHILDREN’S STORIES AND NOVELS: THE CASE OF SEVİM AK
The purpose of the current study is to determine how and to what extent the child reality in the stories and novels of Sevim Ak, who is an important writer of children’s literature, is addressed. The sampling of the study is comprised of a total of 33 literary works of Sevim Ak (14 novels and 19 stories) written in the period 1991-2016 for children. The current study employed the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods; the collected data were analyzed by means of content analysis.
It was determined that in nearly 40% of the 33 literary works of Sevim Ak, the child reality was captured. It was concluded that the examples of the child reality were created through the effect of sense of curiosity; moreover, that in the analyzed works, visuals reflecting the child reality were also included and they were used as a tool for the reflection and understanding of the child reality. The authors of children's books to write works that comply with these qualities will enable them to put the child in the center and take children's literature to a higher level.
