Abstract
A COMPARISON OF EDUCATIONAL BELIEFS OF FORMATION CERTIFICATION AND FACULTY OF EDUCATION STUDENTS
In this study the beliefs of students in philosophies of education were compared between two groups; pedagogical formation certification program and faculty of education. The main goal was to explore whether there is a difference between the beliefs of the groups. In order to reach this goal data collected from 297 teacher candidates at Karadeniz Technical University. Educational Beliefs Scale (Yılmaz, Altınkurt and Çokluk, 2011) was used as the data collection tool. Mann-Whitney and Chi-Square independency tests were used for data analysis. Based on the results the highest agreement was on dimension of existentialism for both groups of teacher candidates. Besides, the mean comparison of the groups revealed that significant difference does not exist for only the dimension of perennialism between the groups. Moreover, the certification program students show lower interests for teaching as a profession compared to collage of education students.
