Abstract
IN THE CONTEXT OF TURKISH ARABIC RELATIONS PLANT NAMES FORMED BY MEANS OF MEANING TRANSITION
Plant names, due to semantic diversity they include, attracted attentions many researchers. For this reason, many scientific studies were done about plant names. An important part of these studies are about the structures and origins of the words mentioned. However, it is known that plants used in many areas especially in medicine and pharmacy were named likewise in many languages. These similarities seen in so many plant names that cannot be coincidental came up mostly through interpretations. Considering that a significant part of historical medicine and pharmacy works written in Turkish language is interpreted from Arabic, it is natural that the plant names in Arabic and Turkish show similarities in terms of meaning.
In this study, the names of plants which are parallel in meaning in terms of meaning in Turkish and Arabic, that is, formed by means of meaning transfer have been identified and are listed under three titles according to their formation.
