Abstract
THE EXAMINATION IN TERMS OF TENSE, ASPECT AND TEMPORAL REFERENCE OF SUFFIX /-GAN/ IN MODERN UYGHUR
In modern Uyghur, the suffix /-GAn/ is one of the most used aspect temporal markers used in verb conjugation apart from being used as an adjective verb suffix. İt is a multi-functional suffix that, usually express perfect in terms of aspect an in different contexts can express past tense or present results of an event in past in terms of tense. The suffix /-GAn/ expresses different temporal order relations between speech time, event time and reference time. In some studies, different explanations have been given on the functions of this suffix.
This paper, after a brief look at the historical development of the /-GAn/ supplement and the studies on its usage in modern Uyghur, aims to classifies the sample sentences according to the type of temporal order relations and examines their aspectotemporal differences. Explains lexical and contextual factors that cause these differences.
