Abstract
THE LEVELS OF PROSPECTIVE TURKISH TEACHERS IN DETERMINING THE CASE SUFFIXES AND THEIR FUNCTIONS
Basically, learning and effectively using a language necessitates to know the rules of that language. What is expected of the program practitioners is to give the attainments to the students in accordance with the functional grammar approach. Therefore, prospective teachers need to know the functions of grammar subjects. In this study, it was aimed to determine the competence levels of prospective Turkish teachers about the shape and meaning properties of case suffixes. In the study, the survey model was used. The sample of the study was comprised of 181 senior students, who were studying Turkish Teaching Programs in the six state universities in Turkey in 2018-2019 Spring term. In the study, the sample group was given totally 40 sentences. As the conclusion of the study, it was determined that, among the 181 prospective Turkish teachers, 5 students (2.7 %) scored 0 points, which was the lowest score, and 1 student (0.6 %) scored 19 points, which was the highest score. Based on the variable of university they attend it can be mentioned that the participant prospective Turkish teachers representing Eastern Anatolia and Aegean Regions were more successful in determining the case suffixes and their functions compared to the students from the other regions.
