Abstract
THE COMPUTATIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE FREQUENCY AND DISPERSION OF THE VOCABULARY USED BY THE NARRRATORS IN THE NOVEL SOKAKTAKİ ADAM
A computer-assisted quantitative text analysis enables us to reach the data and results that cannot be reached through reading. The frequency and dispersion of linguistic units are measured, moreover, various comparisons and statistical analyses can be made with computers. The novel Sokaktaki Adam by Attilâ İlhan has 22 chapters and each chapter is narrated sequentially by a narrator who comes from a different social background. Therefore, it is necessary to examine an idiolect for each of these narrators who represent different social environments. In this study, to reveal the idiolectic characteristics of the narrators, word frequency lists, word clouds and word dispersion plots were generated; word length, word density and sentence length were calculated. The objective of this study is to see, to what extent, the contribution to the stylistic studies.
