Abstract
FOLK MEDICINE IN DIWAN LUGAT AT-TURK MAGICAL AND RATIONAL TREATMENT METHODS
In the 11th century, Diwan Lugat at-Turk, written with the intention of preparing a dictionary by Mahmut al-Kashgari, has directly or indirectly touched upon various topics related to Turkish history, geography and culture with the headwords İt explained. One of the subjects that Diwan Lugat at-Turk contacted and addressed in the way mentioned is the folk medicine. Folk medicine, which is called by various names, has emerged as a result of the concerns of protection, prevention and treatment of people and has developed some specific healing methods. Treatment methods of folk medicine are shaped around magical and rational processes and practices. Diwan Lugat at-Turk, an encyclopedic dictionary for its content, has a serious accumulation of medical terminology and a serious concept world. However, the treatment methods among them, in terms of quality, require a special attention and classification. This requirement constitudies the starting point of this work. Accordingly in this study, the answer to question “Which of treatment methods of folk medicine in Diwan Lugat at-Turk are magical and rational?” is sought.
