Abstract
CULTURAL MEMORY SPACE: BARAK ROOM AND TRADITION
The cultural structures that the person establishes with his physical and social environment constitute the cultural structures. These structures constitute the cultural memory of societies. The living spaces are the coding area of cultural memory forms. Space contributes to the provision of cultural continuity as the memory store of the society. Being in the same place by the members of the community enables the sharing of shared experience and memory. In these environments, there is an intergenerational cultural communication. Common behavioral patterns determined by being in the same place are an important factor in the formation of the values and attitudes of the community. In the article, village rooms belonging to Barak Turkmen were examined as a place of cultural memory. The purpose of the article is to reveal the role of the Barak room as a place of cultural memory in preserving the historical and literary identity of the community.In this framework, firstly, literature search was made, data were collected by document analysis technique and interviews were made with the source people in verifying the detected data. In the examination, it was determined that the verbal culture and oral history memory formed during the migration and settlement processes of Barak Turkmens were preserved in the room axis and transferred between generations. The fact that Barak rooms have more than one function in the local culture such as parliament, guest house, entertainment place, mourning house has prepared an environment for this cultural sharing.
