Abstract
ANALYSIS OF THE TEXTS IN TURKISH LESSONS (5, 6, 7, 8) BOOKS IN TERMS OF READABILITY
Readability is the evaluation of texts for reader levels through readability formulas. In this study, the texts that are in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade Turkish course boks are researched view of readability. Only prose type texts are included in this study. Poetry texts are excluded to calculate the data more accurately. By using different readability formulas, syllable numbers, word numbers, sentence numbers, word and sentence length values were examined. These calculated values give information about the structure and difficulties of reading texts. A hundred reading texts were researched in total. The texts were divided according to their types and it is understood that reading texts were generally “easy” and “medium” levels. It was determined that the difficulty levels of the informative texts were higher than the difficulty levels of the narrative texts. . As a result of the study, it is confirmed that reading texts are not getting difficult according to their levels in terms of readability. In other words, as the grade levels increase, but the levels of reading texts did not increased. By using this study and other studies together, it is possible to develop criterias that can give more accurate results for the readability of texts.
