Abstract
IN TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEXTBOOKS USE OF WESTERN ORIGIN WORDS: YEDİ İKLİM TURKISH SERIES (A1-A2 TEXTBOOK) EXAMPLE
In teaching Turkish as a foreign language, the “reading” skill, which is included in the four basic language skills, is one of the most space and time allocated in the textbooks written in order to teach Turkish to foreigners. In the teaching of grammatical structures to learners, reading texts are important in teaching Turkish to learners, especially in terms of acting with unities larger than sentence, and developing vocabulary. It is a natural process of the language to exchange words with other languages for various reasons within the functioning of the language. Turkish has taken words from many eastern and Western languages during its history and today. Especially after the Tanzimat period, this exchange of Western languages increased the placement of many Western languages in Turkish. Turkish instruction sets designed to teach Turkish to foreigners have many words originating from the Western language. The aim of this study is to determine Western origin words in Yedi İklim Turkish teaching set (A1-A2) and to determine the effects of this word on learners.
