Abstract
DETERMINING THE INFORMATION LITERACY LEVEL OF TURKISH TEACHER CANDIDATES: THE CASE OF KILIS 7 ARALIK UNIVERSITY
Advances in information technologies have led to changes in social structures and the emergence of new concepts. One of these concepts is information literacy. In the study, it was aimed to determine the information literacy level of Turkish teacher candidates in Kilis 7 Aralık University Muallim Rıfat Education Faculty. For this purpose, Information Literacy Scale was applied to 111 students. The data obtained in the study, in which the screening model was adopted, were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 statistical package program. In the study, it was tried to determine the levels of realizing the information needs of the participants, reaching the information, recognizing the information sources, comprehending-organizing-structuring the information. At the end of the analysis, it was revealed that most of the pre-service teachers had the aforementioned skills. The participants are aware of all the prerequisites necessary for recognizing their information needs and using written/digital resources; It has been determined that they care about legal regulations, freedom of thought and expression, and privacy/security principles at the point of providing information. The majority of teacher candidates participating in the study; It has been concluded that it is sufficient in the processes of determining the basic ideas in the sources, organizing the information in a systematic way, distinguishing the contradictory information, establishing a cause-effect link between the related concepts and structuring the information.
