Abstract
MIXED-META METHOD FOR USING E-LEARNING APPLICATIONS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE
In today's rapidly developing technology, new methods and techniques have started to be used in English teaching. The use of e-learning applications in English teaching has become inevitable, especially since information technologies are now a part of our lives. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of using e-learning applications in teaching English as a foreign language. For this purpose, the mixed-meta method, in which quantitative and qualitative methods are used together, was employed. In this context, in a quantitative context, national and international studies on the effect of e-learning applications on academic achievement in foreign language teaching through meta-analysis were selected and analyzed in the context of inclusion criteria and the effect size value was reached (g=.17). On the other hand, in the qualitative context, through meta-thematic analysis, studies containing qualitative participatory views conducted on the relevant subject and nationally and internationally were reached, and these studies were analyzed according to content analysis, and themes and codes were obtained. The obtained codes showed that there are positive and negative aspects of e-learning applications in foreign language teaching. It has been revealed that when certain precautions are taken for the limitations of e-learning applications, they can positively affect language teaching and the learning process in general. By providing students with equal opportunities, the use of e-learning applications in English teaching can be expanded. It is recommended to create more secure systems especially for evaluation purposes in e-learning applications to be developed in the future. At the same time, it is recommended that teachers be given in-service training on informatics in order to use e-learning applications correctly. It can be said that the current research is a strong source for new studies to be carried out on the subject, thanks to the meta-analysis and meta-thematic analysis.
