Abstract
COMPARISON OF MONOLINGUAL AND BILINGAL STUDENTS' OPINIONS ON THE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT IN SCHOOL BASED ON PISA 2018 TURKEY DATA
In many countries, linguistic limitations and socio-economic disadvantages caused by immigration can negatively affect bilingual students' success in school. In addition, the fact that the instructional process in the school was not designed considering the needs of bilingual students is one of the factors that negatively affect their school success. PISA, which is an international survey study, provides comprehensive data on the views of bilingual students on the educational environment at school. In this context, this study aims to compare the views of monolingual and bilingual students on the educational environment at school, based on PISA 2018 data. The participants of the study are 6890 students who participated in the PISA 2018 Turkey survey. As a result of the statistical comparison of the views of monolingual and bilingual students on the teaching/learning process at school in this sample, it was observed that bilingual students generally have more negative views on the educational environment at school compared to monolingual students.
