Abstract
ANALYZING THE NARRATIVE TEXTS IN TURKISH COURSEBOOK IN TERMS OF DESCRIPTIVE EXPRESSION ELEMENTS
The study analyzing the narrative texts in 8th grade Turkish coursebook in terms of descriptive narrative elements was carried out in document analysis design. The descriptive analysis technique was used for determining how descriptive elements were discussed in the narrative texts that created the data of the study. The descriptive elements determined within this framework were coded and categorized according to the description types, described elements, senses used in the description process, the rhetoric and the linguistic structure. It was concluded at the end of the study that there were one or more types of description in narrative texts. It was understood that descriptive and artistic descriptions were prominent among these description types. The psychological descriptions were determined to be less. Furthermore, it was concluded that individuals were mostly described in explanatory descriptions. Similarly, it was noticed that no other element rather than individuals were described in psychological descriptions. It was determined for artistic descriptions that things were described more and other elements were less. In conclusion, it was identified that both the description types and the descriptive narrative elements were not distributed evenly and sufficiently in texts.
