Abstract
AN EXAMINATION OF TURKISH EPIC IN TERMS OF TANGIBLE/INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE TRANSFER: THE EXAMPLE OF KOCOCAŞ EPIC
The survival and transfer of cultural heritage is one of the important issues to be considered in the face of globalization. In parallel with the change in the social and cultural lives of Turks, some tangible and intangible cultural values have either disappeared in the face of globalization or have undergone a change. It is possible to observe the original states of changed or destroyed cultural values in folk narratives created in oral environment. Epics are one of the intangible cultural elements. It is possible to determine many tangible or intangible cultural values that are important in the social and cultural lives of Turks through epics. These elements, which are found in oral narratives at the point of culture transfer, can be identified and classified and then reproduced by using them in modern arts. For this purpose, a descriptive document analysis was carried out in order to emphasize the change in the social and cultural life of the Turks and to discuss that oral narratives are rich resources to be utilized in terms of cultural value, and the concrete and intangible cultural elements in the Kococaş Epic, a known Kırgız epic in the Turkic world, were identified.
