Abstract
WHAT IS POSTMODERN POETRY?
Postmodernism has affected literature as a culture and an arts movement for a long years. Many works about postmodernism in Turkey generally examine fiction texts such as novel and story. But works that examine postmodernism phenomenon in poetry is very few. We can observe that it is accepted postmodern poetry phenomenon and it is examined postmodern poetry in Europe and America. Postmodern poetry comes into existence under the conditions of the post-industrial era although it inherits a lot of elements from the modernist avant-garde movements. Postmodern poetry, remembered firstly Charles Olson and Frank O’Hara in America, is common poetry movements. The conditions of the post- industrial area, the loss of confidence in the meta-narratives, the people terrified as a result of scientific developments, erosion of moral and religious values, extreme individualism and become isolated have triggered to poets tend a different approach to poetry. Postmodern poetry often is associated with experimental poetry, concrete poetry, visual poetry. Postmodern poetry features are eclecticism, polyphony, experimentation, formlessness, ambiguity. The aim of this work is to state the origin of postmodern poetry and determine the basic features of postmodern poetry.
