This study investigated the activities in secondary school 6th grade Turkish workbook and teacher’s guidebook in the frame of the components of an activity and the features of these components. To this aim, a document analysis was conducted; totally 228 activities in secondary school 6th grade Turkish workbook published by Ministry of Education was examined. Descriptive analysis was applied in the evaluation of the activities. The results revealed that the main purpose of the activities was reinforcing only one target objective and it was observed that learner’s roles before, during and after the activities were explained in all activities. However, teacher’s roles before, during and after the activities were not explained in most of the activities. In terms of content criteria, it is seen that preliminary information about topic, concept or materials were not given in many activities. No activities gave information about the settings criterion or they did not have evaluation and assessment criterion. It was also seen that none of the activities met the adaptability to new situations criterion.
Turkish teaching curriculum aims to teach language skills through activities; for this reason, activities should have all the components of an activity. Activities having all these criteria would increase the quality of teaching and help students develop their language skills.
