Abstract
TRACES OF ORIENTALISM IN “JÖNLER”, A NOVEL BY BEKIR FAHRI [İDİZ]
In the period of Meşrutiyet II., with the effect of free atmosphere created by the success of İttihat and Terakki community, many literary works were penned. One of the works, namely “Jönler” is a novel because the writer, Bekir Fahri, a member of Jön Türkler movement. Another aspect of the work to which only a little attention paid is that it reflects the effect of Orientalism on people. Orientalism can be defined as the sense that western world tried to create in order to dominate east and it has been effective over years. The analysis conducted with this regard on the literary works reveals to much extant the writers, who are the mirrors of society, were affected consciously or unconsciously and to much extant they reflected it on their works. In the present study, the novel “Jönler” has been focused on with this regard and the traces of Orientalism have been looked for.
