Abstract
A RESEARCH ON READING AND LISTENING ANXIETIES OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
The aim of this study is to examine the relation between reading and listening anxieties of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade secondary school students and to determine whether students’ listening anxiety differs according to sex difference, educational level of parents and the number of books read in the recent month. The study has been configured on survey model. For collecting data about students’ reading anxiety ‘The Reading Anxiety Scale’ which was developed by Melanlıoğlu (2014) and about their listening anxiety ‘The Listening Anxiety Scale’ by Melanlıoğlu (2013) have been used. Findings related to sub problems have been analysed through independent sample t test, ANOVA and Scheffe test. According to findings obtained from the study there is a medium level, significantand positive relation between reading and listening anxieties of secondary school students. The other findings are that the students’ reading and listening anxieties significantly differ according to parents’ educational level but not according to the number of the books read in the recent month.
