This study assessed the suitability of the reading texts and activities in the fourth-grade Turkish textbooks published by Özgün and the Ministry of National Education for 2021-2022. The books were selected using affinity sampling. The study adopted a basic descriptive research design based on a qualitative approach. The researchers transformed the criteria outlined in the Guidelines for Textbook Preparation of the Board of Education and Discipline (BEI, 2022) into a checklist. Reliability was established by confirming a 94% consistency rate among the researchers. Internal validity was upheld by addressing the criteria with literature-backed support and cross-comparing the data. External validity was assured by explaining the research process and demonstrating its replicability for other researchers to apply through a step-by-step approach. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The findings revealed several deficiencies in how the documents incorporated the criteria. Nevertheless, these shortcomings do not act as barriers to their usability.
