The Old Turkic verb “taşık-“ meaning “to go out”, is attested only in the Sakha dialect of modern Turkic. This verb has undergone a process of /ş/ ⁓ /k/ metathesis and phonetic changes from takış- > taxıs- > tağıs- to achieve its current form of tağıs-. It is widely used as an auxiliary verb in compound verb structures, such as “noun + tağıs-”, “main verb + -An adverb-verb + tağıs-”, and idiomatic expressions. This study examines the semantic and functional properties of the verb tağıs- as a descriptive verb. Opinions of Sakha scholars, particularly those who contributed to STBUT, and researchers in Turkey who have worked on this topic, were taken into consideration regarding the usage of the verb tağıs- in descriptive verb structures and the meanings it expresses. Then, examples of the functions of this verb used as a descriptive verb were identified from selected works of Sakha literature, and all findings were interpreted in the conclusion section.
