Abstract
“SWORD” IN TURKISH VOCABULARY
There is a tight binding between language of a nation and its culture. Elements belonging to cultures of societies are reflected on their languages and vocabularies. Therefore, examining concepts, words, proverbs, idioms and various narrative patterns in a language, information about the culture of that society is revealed. In this study, primarily discussing the word “sword”, information about place of this word first in culture and then in our vocabulary is provided. Thanks to this study, it can be clearly seen that sword has very important in the life of the Turks, it is not a simple instrument of warfare for the Turks, but it represents power, justice, friendship, youth, skills, courage, valor for them, and there is such a powerful relationship between culture and language.
