Abstract
EXAMINATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TURKISH TEXTBOOKS IN TERMS OF ABILITY OF REPRESENTATION OF TURKISH AND WORLD LITERATURE
There is a program prepared in accordance with specific purposes in the background of educational activities. The practical representation of this program are textbooks and teachers carry out its implementation. The teacher is an important element in being able to take initiative to detecting errors and filling deficiencies. Another important element is the textbook, which will guide him and make his job easier. The importance of textbook is great, especially in developing countries such as ours, which harbours a considerable student population. It is crucial in disadvantaged areas of groups where textbook usually used as the only source and supplementary reference are rarely referred.
Turkish Textbooks fulfil many duties other than just being textbooks. Some of them are character and ethics education, culture bearing, forming of collective memory, establishing aesthetic taste, etc. The most important aim of Turkish class is to introduce Turkish literature to the student within a certain program and in this way ensure that he learns and adopts the culture he lives in, along with the acquirement and improvement of four basic skills. One of the primary goals of Turkish class in the modern day where the world gets smaller owing to the means of communication is that the students get to know different cultures and be informed on the important names and works of the world literature. However, it does not seem possible that this duty can be executed with secondary school curriculum as the Turkish textbooks in our day follows a thematic plan and texts are chosen as their suitability to thee theme. Primary goal in this study is to approach the secondary school Turkish textbooks from this angle, determine the which writers from Turkish and world literature and which of their texts are included and try to determine how much these represent Turkish literature or one of its eras along with the important texts of world literature.
