Abstract

PROSPECTIVE CLASSROOM TEACHERS' VIEWS ON TRADITIONAL CHILDREN'S GAMES

Today, different studies are carried out in order to remember traditional children's games, which are one of our important cultural treasures and make serious contributions to the development of children. In this context, "traditional children's games" course has been added to the field education elective courses of the undergraduate course programs of the Department of Classroom Teaching, which has been updated since 2018-2019.  The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of prospective classroom teachers about traditional children's games.

Phenomenographic method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 55 prospective classroom teachers who took the elective course "Traditional Children's Games". An open-ended questionnaire form was used as a data collection tool.  The data obtained were analyzed by creating themes and codes. As a result of the study, it was determined that pre-service classroom teachers mostly associate traditional children's games with the culture of societies. The study also revealed that pre-service primary school teachers have the view that students can gain most of the root values and 21st century skills by including traditional children's games in learning environments.
