Multilingualism is a subfield of sociolinguistics. Individuals who use two or more languages are multilingual. Today, it is possible to encounter multilingual individuals in every country. Multilingualism is a topic that is currently being researched by sociolinguistics researchers. In the 11th century, there were multilingual individuals. Dîvânu Lûgati't-Türk is an important dictionary that brings multilingual individuals and societies to the
present day. Kâshgarlı Mahmud, in the light of the information he compiled from the Turkish tribes, states that multilingual individuals lived in his work. In the 11th century, Turkic tribes who knew and used more than one language are the subject of our study. In our study, multilingual tribes and clans were investigated by examining Dîvânu Lûgati’t-Türk prepared by Ahmet B. Ercilasun and Ziyat Akkoyunlu. Tribes and clans were examined by taking into account the geography they lived in, their economic activities, religions and the neighbors they might be affected by.. Our research was conducted using the document review technique, one of the qualitative research methods.
